Voting During a Pandemic

By Faria Majeed

As we all know, there’s still an ongoing, worldwide epidemic. People around the world are still scared to leave the house in fear of their health and passing the virus onto their loved ones. With this year’s election just days away, many must make a decision; do I show up to the polls or not?

For those of us who are afraid of what’s to come in regards to polling and voting; fear not. There’s a safe solution; and it’s called mail-in voting. Here’s how it works:

  1.  Your state will mail a ballot to all active, registered voters for the General Election.
  2. When your ballot arrives, read it carefully and follow the instructions to complete it and return it.
  3. Ballots can be returned by mail with a postmark on or before November 3, 2020 to be counted as a valid ballot by the County Clerk if received by 8:00 p.m. on November 10th. Ballots without a postmark that are received within 48 hours of the closing of polls on November 3, 2020 shall be considered valid.

Despite being the safest option for voting this year, there’s a lot of controversy surrounding it. President Trump strongly opposes mail-in voting. In regards to it, here’s what he said:

“There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent. Mail boxes will be robbed, ballots will be forged & even illegally printed out & fraudulently signed. The Governor of California is sending Ballots to millions of people, anyone living in the state, no matter who they are or how they got there, will get one. That will be followed up with professionals telling all of these people, many of whom have never even thought of voting before, how, and for whom, to vote. This will be a Rigged Election. No way!”

So basically, he thinks this will cause a rigged election. Left wing supporters are clapping back at him stating that the only reason Trump so strongly opposes mail in voting is because in person gives Russia the opportunity to hack the election in Trump’s favor.

Whatever Trump thinks, there’s no doubt that this is quite obviously the safest option for Americans. Mail in voting reduces risk of virus retraction, increases voter turnout, and higher voter satisfaction. So make what you believe is the safest choice this November. Either send in your ballots or show up to your local polling spot. Remember to wear a mask, sanitize, stay 6 feet apart, and stay safe!
